The BClearTM Targeted PhotoClearingTM system allows physicians to provide high-dose UVB light to clear psoriasis plaques in fewer treatments than required by traditional therapies.

Psoriasis gets its name from the Greek word for "itch." With this as one of its major symptoms, it's easy to understand how psoriasis can dramatically affect quality of life. In the United States alone, five to six million people have this chronic skin condition, characterized by inflamed skin that produces red, thickened patches covered with silver-colored scales or plaques. Psoriasis commonly occurs on the elbows, knees, groin, scalp, palms, soles of the feet and nails. In some cases, the condition is so mild that patients don't even know they have it. But psoriasis can affect extensive areas of the body, resulting in considerable physical, psychological and emotional disability for those who suffer from it.

There is no cure for psoriasis. The goal of treatment is to reduce inflammation and to slow rapid skin cell division. Exposure to sunlight helps people with psoriasis, but sunlight can damage healthy skin, as can exposure to full body ultraviolet light, which is sometimes used by physicians to treat the condition.

A unique, new therapy featuring targeted phototherapy allows physicians to deliver high-intensity, UV light directly to the psoriatic lesion. It provides an effective, safe treatment option for those who previously have not received satisfactory results.
